In 2002 I moved to Nashville and dove in—you can hear the Nashville musical and lyrical influence in Release, which I recorded in 2005. Everything is a little rootsier than what I was doing with my LA band Susan’s Room. I was writing other people’s stories as well as my own, and I was thinking a lot about transitions of all kinds: that theme is throughout the CD: you'll catch it in the songs "I Don't Do That Anymore", "I'm a Beginner Again", "Crack In The Ceiling", and "Good Times Left", among others.
I met some amazing musicians and singers my first couple of years in Nashville, and many of them played or sang on Release: Bryan Owings on drums, Dave Francis on bass, Steve Conn on organ and accordian, Jim Hoke on dobro and harmonica, as well as Hillary Scott (pre-Lady Antebellum), Dana Cooper, Kathy Hussey, and Susan's Room alumnus Ritt Henn. I played acoustic guitar and co-produced Release with my husband Tom Manche, who also doubled on lead guitar.
